ACA vs. private plans at a glance
Both have a place. The right one depends on your health, budget, and timing.
| ACA Marketplace | Private plans | |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-existing conditions | Always covered | Often excluded or limited |
| Tax credits | Available based on income | Not available |
| When you can enroll | Open Enrollment or a Special Enrollment Period | Usually year-round |
| Essential health benefits | Required by law | Vary by plan |
| Good fit for | Most people needing full coverage | Short gaps or extra protection |
Short-term medical and limited medical plans are not ACA-compliant coverage and aren't a replacement for a Marketplace plan for most people. We'll always explain the difference before you choose.
Common questions
Does it cost anything to use Blue Liberty Health?
No. Our help is free. Licensed agents are paid by the insurance companies, so you pay the same premium whether you enroll with us or on your own.
Can I get an ACA plan outside of Open Enrollment?
Often, yes. Losing job coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby can open a Special Enrollment Period, usually 60 days from the event. We can check whether you qualify.
Are private plans the same as ACA plans?
No. Short-term and limited medical plans are not ACA-compliant coverage. They may not cover pre-existing conditions and cannot be paid for with a tax credit. We show both side by side and explain the trade-offs so you can choose.
Will I get a lot of calls?
No call centers and no selling your information. A Blue Liberty Health agent will contact you about your quote, and you can opt out at any time.
